Whenever you visit one of our holiday parks in North Yorkshire, you’ll be welcomed by a friendly manager who will be your first point of contact throughout your visit.
To make you feel more at home, we’re introducing all of our managers so you know who you’ll be meeting on arrival. First to say hello are Sam and John Reay, who manage York House Holiday Park and Abbots Green, both at Balk, just outside Thirsk.
Name: Sam and John Reay
How long have you been managing the park?
Sam: We have been managing the park for 5 years, the first 3 ½ years as Assistant Managers and the last 18 months as Park Managers
What were you doing before that?
John: We have worked on a number of holiday parks around the country.
What attracted you to this park?
Sam: The location as it is near to my children and grandchildren. We had been hoping to move here for a while, so once we’d gained some experience elsewhere we applied and we were really thrilled to get the job.
John: I also enjoy walking and cycling so the Dales and the Moors was a pull to the area.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Sam: Meeting new people and engaging with the holiday home owners.
John: The variety each day different and as Sam says, meeting people.
What’s your favourite spot on the park?
Sam: The play park and dog walk as the views over the hills and Sutton Bank are amazing.
John: Also, Abbots Green is always quiet and the wildlife, especially the moor hens and chicks, are a delight to see through the day.
What’s the best time of year on the park?
Sam: Springtime, when the majority of the holiday home owners return after winter.
John: I also like the longer daylight hours – days when you can take advantage of the stunning scenery and views from the top of Sutton bank after work.
Tell us something we might not know about you – an unusual former job, a strange talent… whatever you want!
Sam: My dad was a pop star in the 60s and got to number one with his band!
John: I worked and lived on the island of Lanzarote and also spent two years living in a motorhome touring the south of England.
